On a accueilli avec joie la réapparition de Max Linder à l'écran. Il s'interprétait lui-mème dans Les Escarpins de Max, une petite anecdote contée avec agrément. Ce n'est là qu'un lever de rideau qui nous présage des films plus corsés. René Delbost. (Le Cinéma et l'écho du cinéma réunis, 30.6.1916)
Anmerkung: Georges Sadoul gibt 1913 als Produktionsjahr an und schreibt, dass es sich um eine Neuverfilmung von MAX LANCE LA MODE [1912] handelt. (Histoire générale du cinéma III, 1951), «Er spielt sich selbst» schreibt der Rezensent von CEC,30.6.16, was zwar auf einige seiner Filme zutrifft, wo er ausdrücklich «Max Linder - den Filmschauspieler» spielt, aber nicht unbedingt auf MAX LANCE LA MODE. Außerdem ist LES ESCARPINS DE MAX fast ein Drittel kürzer als der 1912-Film. ― [Note: Georges Sadoul gives 1913 as the year of production and claims it to be a new version of MAX LANCE LA MODE [1912] (Histoire générale du cinéma III, 1951). The review of "Le cinéma et l'écho du cinéma réunis" gives too little information for the film to be identified, merely: “he plays himself”, which is certainly true to many of his films, in which he plays Max Linder, the movie actor, but not necessarily true to MAX LANCE LA MODE. Der französische Filmhistoriker Henri Bousquet übernahm in den neunziger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts die Aufgabe das Gesamtwerk der französischen Filmproduktionsfirma Pathé Frères zu katalogisieren. Basis für seine Arbeit waren zwei alte Registerbände, die laut Bousquet alle Filme enthalten, die von Pathé hergestellt und vertrieben wurden. Der fortlaufend numerierte Bestand, der von Bousquet ab 1993 veröffentlicht wurde (Catalogue Pathé des années 1896 à 1914 [Vol. I-IV] und De Pathé Frères à Pathé Cinéma [Vol. I+II]), weist jedoch Lücken auf. Von insgesamt 6850 Nummern, die in der Zeit von 1905 bis 1917, in der Linder bei Pathé gearbeitet hat, vergeben wurden, konnten für 510 Nummern keine Titel ermittelt werden. Dadurch ist es schwer einzuschätzen, ob es sich bei "Les escarpins de Max", der zwar in historischen Quellen erwähnt wird, aber nicht im Register erscheint, um einen Original-Film handelt oder eventuell um einen Wiederaufführungs- bzw. um einen alternativen Titel. ― [In the 1990s the French film historian Henri Bousquet published his multi-volume “restoration”-work of the whole Pathé output Catalogue Pathé des années 1896 à 1914 [Vol. I-IV] and De Pathé Frères à Pathé cinéma [Vol. I+II]. For his work he relied on two contemporary “Registres Pathé” which he claimed to contain “all the films produced, edited or distributed by Pathé Frères between 1907 and 1926” (Foreword Vol.3). Since Pathé had continuously numbered its output, it was possible to compare it to films included in the register. It showed, that of all numbers issued between 1905 and 1917, the period in which Linder worked for Pathé, only about 92% could be attributed to a title (for 510 numbers there was no title found). It is therefore difficult to determine whether "Les escarpins de Max", which is mentioned in ancient sources, but not included in the register, is a genuine Max Linder-film or an alternative/re-release title.]
