Im Théâtre Marigny drängt sich jeden Abend eine gewaltige Menge: um Max Linder zu sehen, riskiert man gern einen Stockschnupfen. Es ist auch tatsächlich amüsant, den berühmten Max zu sehen, wie er sich, bald auf der Leinewand, bald in persona, dem Präfekten seines Wahlkreises vorstellt, wie ihn sein kleines Mädl (sie hört auf den poetischen Kosenamen Poutoune) in Verzweiflung bringt, und wie sich schließlich alles in Wohlgefallen auflöst. Das Rätsel von Maxens Erfolg liegt meiner Ansicht nach in der sichtlichen Freude, die er selbst an seinem Spiel, seinen Gesten, Grimassen und Verrenkungen hat, und die sich dem Publikum mitteilt. At the Marigny Max Linder, apparently a locally popular comedian, is combining a cinema feature with a comedy sketch. A dramatic prologue introduces a Parisian called away on a political errand to a near-by town. His infantile mistress insists on going with him. As they leave their apartments, lugging a very large hand trunk, the cinema takes up the story and they are shown at the station, where the wife, clinging to her husbands neck, is carried away with him on his journey. Arriving at the village where the presence of the mistress would be embarrassing, the youth tries to ship her back home, but is finally compelled to pack her in his trunk and in this fashion carry her into the home of a irascible uncle. Again the picture ends and the remainder of the playlet is acted, The somewhat boisterous fun being extracted from the effort of the youth to keep the mistress concealed, first in the bed, later in the bathtub of his suite and her final exposure when the uncle (discreetly covered by a bathing suit, however) tries to take a bath in the same tub in which the young woman in hiding. Anmerkung: Die geplante Premiere am 6. Juni 1914 wurde nur einen Tag vorher verschoben (La Presse, 7.6.14). Rückwirkend bezeichnete die New York Times (19.2.17) «Député» als "one of those silly boudoir sketches" und deutet an, dass er bei Ausbruch des Krieges, am 3. August 1914 noch auf dem Spielplan stand. In die Revue de Marigny wurde ebenfalls am 11.6.14 der Sketch «Les sosies [de Max Linder]» aufgenommen. Neben Irène Bordoni traten darin Mlles. Thuillier, Charley, Dauriac, Marie Louise, Sariot, Fureyo, Marcel et Sylvia auf. ― [Note: The scheduled premiere on June 6th 1914 was postponed only a day before (La Presse, June 7th 1914). Looking back, the New York Times (Feb. 19th 1917) called «Député» "one of those silly boudoir sketches" and indicated that it was still on the bill, when the war broke out on Aug. 3rd 1914. Also added to the Revue de Marigny on June 11th was the sketch «Les sosies [de Max Linder]» starring Irène Bordoni and with Mlles. Thuillier, Charley, Dauriac, Marie Louise, Sariot, Fureyo, Marcel et Sylvia."]
